HISTORY:
The Department of Mathematics was established in 1997, under the visionary leadership of Mrs. Anima Das, the founding teacher of the department. Initially, the subject was introduced only at the Higher Secondary level, but due to growing demand and recognition of its importance, the department launched an Undergraduate General course in 2005. In 2018, the department embarked on a new journey with the introduction of the BSc Honours course as part of the newly introduced Science stream of the college. To support this development, the talented and dynamic Ms. Gayatri Bodo joined the department as a faculty member in the same year, serving for two years. Currently, the department is staffed by the following three faculty members:

Dr. Jyotishmaan Gogoi
Mr. Nabajit Ray

The department has received an enthusiastic response from both Arts and science stream students who opt for Mathematics as either Honours or Regular course. The department cultivates a cooperative relationship between faculty and students, fostering a positive and productive learning environment.

The faculty members of the department work diligently to inspire students and cultivate a passion for the subject by making it both engaging and interesting. It is believed that mathematics is not merely a subject, but a way of thinking. The department strives to instil this belief in students, encouraging them to explore the subject with curiosity and enthusiasm. The overarching goal is to prepare students to become lifelong learners who are equipped to embrace challenges and are ready to contribute to society in a meaningful way.

The Department is dedicated to ensuring the academic success and professional development of its students. It offers a range of programs and services, including academic advising, career counselling, and the organization of seminars, all aimed at motivating students to achieve their goals and encouraging future research endeavours. In summary, the mission is to provide students with a high-quality mathematics education that equips them to become innovative and ethical thinkers in their chosen fields.

COURSES OFFERED AND INTAKE:
Currently, the Department offers B. Sc. Major and B. Sc. Regular courses, with an intake capacity of 20 and 25 students, respectively.
