The Department was established in the year 2018 in self-financed mode with three guest faculty members, one laboratory assistant, and 8 major students. In 2020, three regular faculty members (assistant Professors) joined the Department in fully sanctioned posts under the Government of Assam. Currently, the Department is offering four years undergraduate courses with major and minor both under the new education policy (NEP).

The Department of Physics is well-equipped with two laboratories for performing practicals for the FYUGP as well as CBCS programs. The faculties of the department along with the conventional method also use modern student-centric methods for a better understanding of the subject. The students of the department participate in different events to engage in participatory and experiential learning.
