Profile

A Brief Profile of Department

The Department of History synchronizes its existence with the establishment of the college in 1984. The college was started as a night college. It is doing laudable works for the welfare of students from the day of its inception till date. Improvement of education, promote research and inculcate self – confidence, self-reliance and career advancement are the goals of our department. It was one of the disciplines introduced initially at pre-university level and subsequently at degree level. The department of history since its inception has followed the course of study prepared by affiliated university. Major subject was introduced in the department in 2003. The enrolment of the students over the years have been very encouraging and since then the department produced some good students through the years. Many students secured first class, completed their higher studies from Central University and other state universities such as Gauhati University, Cotton University and other professional courses.
Basically the Faculty members follow the lecture method in the classroom with some innovative approaches. Group discussion, home assignment, seminar etc are occasionally organized to do away with the monotony of lecture delivery. Study materials are provided and synopsis of some difficult lessons are prepared and distributed. Field trips are also arranged for the students to facilitate their understanding of the socio economic and cultural aspects of the people and its surroundings. ICT classes are taken, PPT presentation by teachers with images and visuals, WhatsApp group, Google classroom, Screen casting etc. are also arranged.
The department of History has been doing all works assigned by college authority for carrying out different extension and community development works within and outside the premise of college. Such activities ensure curriculum-extension interface and creates a healthy academic environment. The Faculty members of the department attend regularly the various faculty development programmes such as Refresher course, orientation course, workshop, popular talk, National and International seminar, conference etc.
In every academic session ( Even & Odd )semester, the department plans a strategy to be achieved by setting some future plans , the department foster to uplift and gain new heights by creating more exposure for the students of the department through historical tour, exchange programme etc.
